Flatten a laptop, Start a fresh win 10 isntall, Linux live boot a server that's acting up, dban some disks, whatever. Leaves time for more fun stuff! Like powershell. When somwthing goes wronf we Reimage or new pc. It is all saved on Servers that are backed up to the cloud. Thats a 10 minute job, its quicker to do that than fix anything thats more complex than basic troubleshooting.

There should never be data on the disk anyway, plus its encrypted so we just wipe it and re-image. I usually boot old school if I can because all my old stuff still works with it that way. A windows recovery disc, ubuntu disk, and sometimes a forensic aimed distro comes in handy as well for kinda the stuff you're talking too.Ī few of the mewer ones will work with uefi better than others if that's a must for you. No special reason, just two that I heard rave reviews about and tried and have used for years. My favorites are probably hirens and ubcd.
I don't know if there's a best answer, but any of a bunch of little Linux distros or tools built on a basic Linux OS oughta do.

Using multi boot from easy2boot for all troubleshooting tools including gandalf but didn't work to install Windows and doesn't support UEFI. It will run as if it's installed on the machine, so accessing files, mounting USB drives and transferring data is easy. It was easy to set up and is quick and easy to use. High capacity thumbdrives are inexpensive, fast, and extremely portable. Finally, maybe you could backup your files to the bootable USB itself. You are able to mount an extra drive and backup data that way. Anything linux will boot pretty fast and will almost always be able to read NTFS. Got some for ubuntu, ultimate boot disk and several others. The recovery disk make by windows works but more often I just use a bunch of linux based bootable drives. I wanted to see what other technicians in the field are using as a USB recovery drive, We are specifically looking for a bootable USB that will let my engineers mount a drive and transfer that data to another external drive.
